The United States Navy has received the LCS 31, the final Freedom-class littoral combat ship produced by Fincantieri Marinette Marine.
The delivery concludes over 20 years of construction and development of the variant, bringing together partner industries and Navy teams in one of the country’s longest-running small surface ship programs. The future USS Cleveland will be commissioned in early 2026 and will be based in Mayport, Florida.
According to naval command, LCS 31 will enhance forward presence, maritime security, and area control missions in strategic regions. The Navy emphasized that the ship represents the technological pinnacle of the Freedom class, offering agility, firepower, and the capability to operate both independently and integrated with cruiser and destroyer forces. The delivery also marks the conclusion of a cycle that began in the early 2000s.
USS Cleveland continues a century-long tradition as the fourth Navy ship to carry the name of the city in Ohio. Its predecessors served in decisive moments of U.S. naval history, from convoys in World War I to amphibious operations in the Middle East. Now, LCS 31 carries on the legacy, designed to face modern threats in littoral environments and strengthen the U.S. maritime presence around the world.
